I've seen the first 4 episodes. It's something, isn't it? Maura's journey is amazing to watch and Jeffry Tambor is incredible but his children are just the worst. I'm glad each ep is only 30 min long because so many scenes are hard to sit through without squirming.

It's really great! I mellowed toward the children over the course of the series--or at least my annoyance become something more mixed. You'll have to tell me what you think when you've finished with all ten. Come back and chat, Pinn! M.

I've heard about it and wanted too, but no, not yet.

Terry Gross did an interview with the author of the book on Fresh Air. I'm sure it's archived online if you want to read it. It was an interesting interview.

T, I really think you'd enjoy it if you have a chance to watch. Let me know if you do so we can chat?

I listened to the Terry Gross interview, actually (in a fannish fit of curiosity about the show), and couldn't believe how she kept mis-gendering the main character. Yikes! Not that cis folks don't get this wrong, but you'd think that's something she'd make a note of prior to the interview! M.

I have to confess to many times screwing up with pronouns and the like when interacting with trans folks. I *usually* catch myself with people, and I always apologize and commit to trying harder. Sometimes I think the closer you are to the community, the more that gender doesn't matter as much. If it's queered and fucked with so much, why bother? But then the trans* community goes in the other direction, really. Gender is REALLY important and identifying folks as they wish is critical. It's hard for me to get it right every time, and I try so hard and care so much.

It's interesting--how much gender matters to some folks, and how little to others. But trying is good! (I'm certainly trying, too.) My reservation about Terry Gross was that she didn't seem to be trying very hard. :(

Meanwhile, hope you're well, T! M.

Just crashing this thread to say that Terry Gross is frequently sloppy in this way! I can hardly listen to Fresh Air without grinding my teeth over something. Oy.

Ah! I don't listen to Fresh Air, very often. Hm. I wonder if after several hundred (thousand?) interview you just don't prep very much.

L, WATCH THIS SHOW! I want to chat with you about it! M.
